Debunking SPF Myths #1

Today at Solas Skin we're talking about SPF myths.

MYTH # ONE: Your lips don't need SPF.

This is all to do with your lips. The lips are probably the most overlooked area when it comes to SPF protection and we are very good at putting SPF on our skin and our face but a lot of us do fall down with it when it comes to protecting our lips. If you're applying SPF on your face, don't stop there. Put protection on your lips because they will thank you when you're older.

MYTH # TWO: The SPF in my foundation is enough.

The second myth is that the SPF that's in your tinted moisturiser or your foundation is enough protection throughout the day which is simply not the case. You would need to be wearing bucket loads of the product in order to receive the benefit of that SPF. So think of that product as almost like a bonus layer of protection as opposed to a replacement of your SPF.

MYTH # THREE: One application in the morning is enough for the whole day.

The third thing is reapplication. If you apply SPF once in the morning, are you good for the rest of the day? And the answer is no. You should be reapplying SPF every two hours. SPF breaks down super quickly throughout the day, specifically if you're exercising, swimming, sweating a lot, it will break down quicker so you are advised to top up every two hours. But how do you do that if you're wearing a full face and makeup most days like me? You use Solas Spritz. It's incredible.

Shake it, spray it, let it dry, open your eyes, you're good to go. It's almost like a veil of protection. It's so handy. It fits in your bag. Obsessed with that product.

MYTH # FOUR: SPF is only needed on holidays or in sunny weather.

The fourth and final myth is that SPF is only needed if you live in a sunny climate or if you're going on holidays, when in reality, UV exposure is happening every single day, even when it's cloudy, even when it's winter, even if you're standing beside a window. Sun damage is cumulative. So all those little moments of exposure add up over time and you will see those results in your skin. So this is your sign to get a full range of SPF and wear it every single day because there's no days off.
